Post by o Taffy Apple x on Sun Jan 10, 2010 5:53 pm

Hey Guys and Gals,

After returning from watching Avatar (imax 3d) i was absolutely blown away. the film is amazing.

NOW the point i wanna make is WHEN or IF there will ever be a time when we can turn on our tv's and play COD in 3d. Oooo YEAHH

It's certainly possible. It really all comes down to when consumers start owning capable hardware and when developers start making the pertinent software.

But yes, there are already 3D games, and you should be seeing a lot more about those games this year.

as cool as it may be i don't know how i feel about having to wear 3d glasses to play games or watch tv and movies.

Yes i loved avatar. I saw it twice in imax 3d. I was also blown away. I cant say I would want everything in 3d.

Just my opinion of course.

I'm with bowski on that. Wearing glasses in a movie theater with a huge screen is cool. Not so much at home. Once they get the technology to the point where it looks cool without the glasses, I'm down. Most of the 3D games with the shutter glasses cause nausea and headaches (according to reviews I have read) after about an hour of playtime. That's a big no-go for me. I play for hours on end.

Just a couple days ago at CES they were all about showing off 3D televisions. There was one of them that could even take regular everyday 2D images and give it a 3D quality. Of course you would have to wear special glasses, but it's not too far off that we won't be needing any glasses at all.

I'm waiting for virtual reality Call of Duty.

I expect it will be another 20 years before it's common in households and at a reasonable price.

Yeah, Sony is making a line of 3-D TV's now. And I forget where I read it, ( I think on Gamespot) but I read that Sony was probably going to have a firmware update for all PS3 users during Quarter 3-4 of 2010 or Early 2011 to have your Games in 3-D. OWNAGE

Yea i mean even while i was watching Avatar i was very aware of the 3d glasses the whole time. I mean that was a long movie (totally worth it) but by the end I was so ready to toss those glasses.

I saw it in two different theaters. 2 types of glasses. Both uncomfortable. Especially for me who does not normally wear glasses of any kind (cept maybe sunglasses)

Also i can't see everything in 3d being good for people's eyesight after a while.

I really hope they can get something decent for folks to demo in 3D. Some kind of 3D Beta on a pre-order through Gamestop or something. I am kind of skeptical of applications beyond low tech games right now. The tech will progress but I can't see anything good coming out of this until 2014-2015.

That is pretty cool. Wouldn't mind paying to see that.

The Virtual Boy did poorly because they couldn't make a home-sized game kit that did not give you a headache.

3D games work well in arcades, in fact one of my favorite games at the arcade is 3D. The thing is, you don't wear glasses to play these 3D games. You place your face against a massive goggle type device.
